What does innovation mean to you?
I think the formal definition is: Innovation is creating value. But nowadays, that's not enough. Innovation should be about creating meaningful value, and being innovative means having the ability to observe and listen deeply - to identify the right problems and act on them with intent. Two elements make a real difference in the process: first, listening with empathy; and second, co-creating solutions with those affected. That's what creates true impact.
What do you believe is the most important capability for companies to thrive in the economy of tomorrow?
The market’s moving faster than ever—technology, competition, customer needs, everything’s evolving at speed. To keep up, companies need to stay sharp. That means being brave enough to test new ideas, fast enough to execute, and smart enough to learn from both the market and the competition. Collaboration is key too—look beyond your usual processes, tap into new talent pools, and don’t get stuck in old ways of thinking. Use whatever gives you an edge.
How can we leverage our collective strength to create a more prosperous future?
I think we build a more prosperous future by collaborating with purpose and without getting stuck in IP worries, drawn-out contracts, egos or bias. So often we meet someone and think, “This could be something, would be interesting to work together,” but then it gets overcomplicated and doesn't work out. Why not just give it a go? The outcome might be uncertain, sure - but that’s part of it. If we’re too cautious, we miss the opportunity.
Describe your project and work and what makes it so innovative?
Currently leading the tech team at SunDrive Solar Australia, driving the dev. and commercialization of novel solar cell manufacturing technologies to produce cheaper and more efficient solar cells. This involves navigating constant change, funding uncertainty, fierce competition, a turbulent industry landscape, and geographically dispersed teams across Australia and China.
In parallel, I’m the co-founder of RK Collective, a purpose-driven product design company focused on projects with environmental and social impact. What makes our work innovative is how we integrate design and business within a sustainability framework - ensuring our solutions are not only desirable and feasible but also commercially viable, which amplifies their real-world impact.
